Dermatology is a branch of medicine that seeks to explain, diagnose, and treat contagious and non-contagious (infectious) skin diseases, and to treat patients with skin diseases. It is a unitary medicine specialty that covers the study of both medicinal and surgical therapeutic aspects. A dermatologists takes care of skin diseases in the broadest sense, and aesthetic problems of the skin, scalp, hair, and nails. With venereology, dermatology also covers venereal diseases (transmitted sexually).
